Fauna of Pellucidar 1 by Khialat Fauna of Pellucidar 1 by Khialat
For my new Tarzan in Pellucidar project, I'd like to introduce some of the dinosaurs and other creatures that live in the underground world that Tarzan will soon venture into! I have been sure to take close reference from Edgar Rice Burroughs' original creation, but have still taken some liberties with my own version - for instance, my Dyrodors CANNOT use their plates to glide :XD:

- DYRODORS - Stegosaurs; their size and natural weaponry protects them from most predators - with the exception of the Zariths
- ZARITHS - Tyrannosaurs and - predictably - apex predators; huge, dangerous and virtually fearless
- DYRYTHS - Giant ground sloths, similar to Megatherium; armed with long, powerful tails and huge claws
- JALOKS - Shaggy-haired predators; descended from the ancient creodont Hyaenodon
- ORTHOPIS - Small herbivorous ungulates; they rely on their speed to escape predators
- GYORS - Apparently descended from Triceratops, though these herbivores also have long spikes on their frills, similar to those of Styracosaurus

I would imagine they had the sounds like in the Walking with Trilogy, Jurassic Park franchise and Disney's Dinosaur.

Something along those kind of lines, yeah :)

The mammals, birds, and sea reptiles would have the sounds from Walking with Prehistoric Beasts and Sea Monsters(also known as Walking with Beasts in your country), the Carnotaur would be Disney Dinosaur sound effects, and the Stego, Trike and Rex would be Jurassic Park sounds. Also forgot to mention the best dinosaur sound effects were in When Dinosurs Roamed America and Dinosaur Planet.

Well, I don't know if they'd sound EXACTLY like in those movies and shows, but yeah, I tend to have those in my head when I think of dinosaur sounds.

Well then again like their color, we can only guess at what dinosaurs sound like. The mammals we can figure because they have modern day relatives.

True. The only way we could know for sure is 1) If we cloned them back to life like in the Jurassic Park movies, or 2) If we did actually invent a time machine. But either option would be risky!

I like the extra spikes on the Stegosaurus / Dyrodor. Nice touch. :)

Also, the coloring on the T-rex is great too. Gray and black with a hint of orange... it makes a striking picture.

Will we see some more fauna of Pellucidar? I'd love to see your take on the thipdar, the classic mega-pterodactyl of the series. Not to mention their freaky masters, the Mahars...

The Thipdars and Mahars will be a major part of the story! But I have a bit more story to go through first.

Cool hyenodonts ,fun fact Africa was once home to the largest species of credont and one of the largest mammalian predators ever known ,the 1 tone ,rhino sized Megistotherium, witch bared a strong resemblance to the jaloks.

The dyrodor also reminds me of the African stegosaur Kentrosaurus witch had a spike sticking out of both of his shoulders, the dyrodon could easily be his descendent going all the way with the spikes.

My Dyrodor is indeed based on Kentrosaurus! ;) I hadn't heard of Megistotherium, so thanks for that info (looks like it rivalled the earlier Andrewsarchus in size).
