Fauna of Pellucidar 2 by Khialat Fauna of Pellucidar 2 by Khialat
Following my previous entry (khialat.deviantart.com/art/Fau…), here's more creatures for my version of Pellucidar!

- TANDORAZ - Elasmosaurs who move onto land (like seals) to lay their eggs
- AZDYRYTHS - Marine predators; descended from the giant ichthyosaur Cymbospondylus; known to snatch Mahars and Thipdars from the sky, and are worshipped by tribes who live in fear of the flying reptiles
- SITHICS - Giant labyrinthodont amphibians; they live and behave much like crocodiles in Pellucidar's rivers
- DYALS - Flightless terror-birds that prey on Orthopis, and are themselves hunted by Jaloks

I confess that much imagery here was inspired by the Rite of Spring segment in Disney's Fantasia :)

I think Plesiosaurs give birth to young...

I thought that was ichthyosaurs (they didn't have to return to land to do it, so were able to evolve fish-like bodies)

This brings back fond memories. "Tarzan at the Earth's Core" was one of my favorite Burroughs works ever! :)

It's a potent combo, isn't it? ;) One of my favorite Tarzan books is the seventh one, Tarzan the Terrible, because it has dinosaurs too. Specifically, Triceratops that have evolved into carnivores. And Tarzan gets to ride one!

Carnivorous Triceratops? That's a bit farfetched :D

Hey, it's Burroughs. At least it's not as bad as gliding Stegosaurus XD

Yeah :XD: Still, gotta give him credit for giving us an iconic character like Tarzan :)

The man's influence is everywhere: his Mars books helped inspire the concept of Superman, for one, and inspired guys like Ray Bradbury, so there's that too.

There's a lot of utterly crazy (even for the pulps) stuff in his books, but that's what makes them what they are, so I can let it slide. :)

Well, I'm currently planning a series of entries detailing Tarzan's adventure in Pellucidar - including encounters with local creatures ;)

Personally, I prefer this 'bestiary' format, but whatever you say, dude!

Ah good something I know something about! I really like the elasmosaurs! (OF COURSE THAT IS HOW NESSIE ESCAPES IT COMES FULL CIRCLE AHAHA!) The Azdryth Azdyr  aadb;fb Cymbospondylus up there kinda looks like it thinks it is in a early 2000 superhero poster. Drawn well but still. *cough* chocobo's*cough* Dyals look pretty cool and Sithics um look kinda generic but hey you are going for more natural so maybe I am just to used to that kinda creature. Looks great, I love anything liquid and nice mountains!

The Final Fantasy equivalent to horses, you breed them and they like Gyash Greens. I'm guessing you aren't a big gamer

No, I don't get involved in that sort of stuff. But I did play a lot of PlayStation games when I was younger.

I know its not present in the official list of Pellucidar wildlife, but I am wondering if it has a giant, bipedal spinosaurus preying on both fish and land animals, a Carnotaurus, and an Iguanodon.

I'll note those down and maybe add them as the project progresses. The spinosaur thing would be interesting!
