Tarzan in Pellucidar - Mahars of Phutra

Introducing the main antagonists of Tarzan in Pellucidar! Unlike Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mahars, who are an all-female race that learned to fertilize their eggs chemically, my version has both sexes - though the females are still very much in charge.

- MAHARS - Race of intelligent yet vicious flying reptiles who dominate Pellucidar from the cave-city of Phutra; Professor Porter theorizes that they evolved from rhamphorhynchids
- Females - strong and ruthless, standing over 2m tall and with a wingspan close to 4m; easily the dominants of the race
- The smaller, ganglier males are restricted to maintenance and breeding duties in Phutra; it is not uncommon for females to devour them if other food becomes scarce, or if they are caught flying (which the females spitefully forbid)
- The females also have psychic abilities, which they use to dominate thipdars and sagoths
- THIPDARS - Pterosaurs, apparently of the azhdarchid variety; most of these beasts are under the Mahars' thrall
- SAGOTHS - Race of great apes enslaved by the Mahars; used to capture other creatures - frequently humans - to store as food - or in Jane's case, as an offering...
