Manimal Island - Front Cover

For those who have been watching, here is a little Halloween present I've been preparing for you - Manimal Island! Inspired by H. G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau, that little story about an, ahem, "eccentric" scientist's attempts to turn animals into human-like beings, and a castaway Englishman's reactions. I read the book about sometime last year, and considered doing artwork of it, but I felt I could not accurately depict the horrible, vivisected beast-folk Wells describes accurately.

However, when I found 's Disney-style reimagining, "Moreau Less Human" garoooooh.deviantart.com/art/M…, I was inspired to have a go. Like his version, I will tone down the horror theme considerably - Moreau's creations will be made in a less gruesome way - but try to maintain the philosophical appeal, i.e. how they parallel real humans and how they struggle to obey Moreau's rules on being "men". And there will also be one or two steampunk elements
